Pennsylvania to Distribute Marani Vodka Across the State Upon Approval
LOS ANGELES, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--May 11, 2009 -- Marani Brands, Inc. (OTC BB:MRIB.OB) announced today that it has submitted an application to the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board in its efforts to gain market share throughout the State. Upon approval, Marani hopes to be available for sale in approximately 225 state controlled liquor stores categorized as tier 1 and 2.
On April 16, 2009, Marani announced its successful move into neighboring New York.
The state of Pennsylvania is a "control" state, meaning the state has a monopoly over the wholesaling and/or retailing of some categories of alcoholic beverages. There are currently 18 control states in the United States.
As the monopoly wholesaler, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board purchases and distributes to its own retail locations throughout the state. Any enterprising alcoholic beverage company must therefore complete the approval process before it is able to expand distribution.
Mirroring the rest of the nation, the market for vodka and ultra-premium vodka in particular continues to grow in the state of Pennsylvania. From July to November 2008, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board reported an increase of 5 percent. Sales during the period increased to $663.5 million from $632.1 million during the same period the previous year. Pennsylvania is the sixth most populous state in the union with over 12.4 million residents as of 2008.
"We are excited at the prospect of partnering with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to expand distribution of Marani vodka throughout the state. Pennsylvania is a large and rapidly growing market for our award-winning products and represents a significant gateway to the Northeast region," said Marani Brands CEO, Ara Zartarian.
