Regions Financial Corp.  (RF) shares rose 5.6%, its shares among those of regional banks that climbed on a Wall Street Journal report that Barclays PLC is looking to purchase a U.S. regional bank.

Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VNDA ) shares climbed 8.7% after Hapoalim Securities said the drug company could be targeted for acquisition.

Zions Bancorp (ZION) , gained 5.4% after the bank said net interest margins improved in the current quarter.

AboveNet Inc.  (ABVT) shares fell 11% after the high-speed data services provider forecast 2010 sales under what analysts had expected.

Collective Brands Inc. (PSS) shares declined 7.9% after the operator of the Payless Shoe Store chain reported fourth-quarter results.

EQT Corp. (EQT) shares declined 5% after the natural-gas producer said it would sell up to 14.4 million shares and hike capital spending.
